The Influence of Attitude Toward Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Skills on the Entrepreneurial Intentions
Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of attitude toward entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial skills on entrepreneurial intentions among active undergraduate students at the University of Lampung, motivated by a consistent decline in the proportion of graduates pursuing entrepreneurship recorded in the university’s tracer study data.
Research Methodology: This quantitative study employed proportionate stratified random sampling, distributing questionnaires through Google Forms to 396 active undergraduate students across eight faculties at the University of Lampung, with the sample size determined using the Slovin formula. Instrument validity was assessed through confirmatory factor analysis with the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy, reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, and the collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression and partial t-tests in IBM SPSS version 29.
Results: Both attitude toward entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial skills were found to have a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial intentions, with attitude toward entrepreneurship exerting a comparatively stronger influence (t = 17.233) than entrepreneurial skills (t = 7.130).
Conclusions: The more positive students’ attitudes toward entrepreneurship and the higher their confidence in their entrepreneurial abilities, the stronger their intention to become entrepreneurs.
Limitations: The study examined only two independent variables and was confined to a single university, limiting the generalizability of the findings to other institutional contexts.
Contributions: The findings offer empirical guidance for the University of Lampung and comparable institutions in designing entrepreneurship education, mentoring, and incubation programs that strengthen both the affective and competency-based foundations of student entrepreneurial intention.
