The Influence of Important Student Programs on The Knowledge and Attitudes of Adolescents in Stunting Prevention
Abstract
Purpose: Stunting is a problem of chronic malnutrition caused by a lack of nutritional intake. The percentage of stunting incidents in Indonesia is still above 20%. The high incidence of stunting can cause growth and development disorders, decreased productivity and cognitive abilities, and the risk of suffering from chronic diseases. Efforts to overcome this can involve groups of nursing students and teenagers. The aim of this research is to see the influence of the stunting care students’ program on teenagers' knowledge and attitudes about stunting prevention
Research Methodology: pre-experiment design, one group pretest and posttest without control group. The population is teenagers domiciled in Silaberanti Village, Palembang. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with the inclusion criteria of late adolescents aged 17 years to 25 years. Exclusion criteria for sick teenagers. The sample size was 144 respondents. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon alternative test.
Results: The median knowledge score increased from 47 before the intervention to 80 after the intervention, while the median attitude score increased from 32 to 36. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference in adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes before and after participating in the Important Student Program (p = 0.001).
Conclusions: The Important Student Program significantly improved adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes regarding stunting prevention.
Limitations: The limitation of this research is that it does not use a control group as a comparison.
Contributions: The contribution of this research can increase the role of nursing students and adolescents in prevention in society.
